Imphal, November 05 2021:
A meeting of Central Trade Unions (CTUs) was convened on November 1 wherein a resolution was adopted to launch protests to exert pressure on the BJP-led NDA government for withdrawing the new labour laws.
According to a statement released by Co-ordinating Body of Trade Union, Manipur chairman L Sotinkumar, the PM Narendra Modi-led BJP government after gaining victory in the Lok Sabha elections of 2014 and 2019 has-been working for the benefit of corporate leaders by enacting several anti- labour laws and privatising various public sector units, which are key for economic growth of the country.
As such, CTUs convened a meeting in New Delhi on November 1 to discuss the negative impacts of above decisions of the government.
The statement continued that the working class, who are already suffering from the first and second waves of the pandemic, have been overburdened with rising prices of daily items.
Under the pretext of improving the economy, the NDA government introduced the National Monetisation Pipeline.
However, this is merely a smokescreen for handing over the people's wealth to private corporations, allowing the latter to earn crores in profit within five years.
CTUs take this move as an attempt to put the people in extreme hardship, it added.
Stating that the NDA government is marked by crony capitalism and neo-liberal economic policy, which is only burdening the working class with skyrocketing prices of items; the statement informed that the meeting on November 1 resolved to launch a 2-day long nationwide strike during the Budget Session scheduled early next year, for revocation of the new labour laws and stopping all privatisation processes.
The meeting also resolved for the trade unions in the CTUs organisation to hold specific campaigns across their respective districts.
