Imphal, January 28 2015:
At least six persons sustained injuries when police cracked down on a group of people who were imposing bandh along Tiddim road at Oinam, Bishnupur district today.
The Oinam Tangleihad Okshoi Grazing Ground Protection Committee called a 48 hour Tiddim road bandh from 5 am today against the State Government's decision to take over the grazing ground.
A large number of bandh supporters came out to the road and blocked vehicular movement along the road at Oinam since early morning.
At around 8 am, police swung into action and started firing tear gas shells and mock bombs in a bid to drive away the bandh supporters and open the road to traffic.
This inflicted injuries to six persons including three women.
All of them were taken to Nambol CHC.
Moreover, police pulled up around nine bandh supporters.
They were later set free after some thrashing.
Some local people decried that one of bandh supporters, pulled up and physically assaulted by police is a class VI student.
Meanwhile, members of the Oinam Tangleihad Okshoi Grazing Ground Protection Committee held a meeting with the Chief Minister later this evening but what transpired during the meeting could not be ascertained.
