Second Voters' Day held ahead of Republic Day

Like in other parts of the country, the 2nd National Voters' Day was observed throughout the State today with the main function held at BOAT, Palace Compound.
Organised by the Chief Electoral Office, State election Commissioner Y Rameshchandra, who graced the occasion as the chief guest administered oath to voters in a symbolic gesture to remind all concerned on the sanctity of the democratic institution.
State's Chief Electoral Officer PC Lawmkunga also handed away electoral photo identity card to 10 individuals who would exercise their franchise right for the first time in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
distribution of prizes to position winners of the essay and quiz competition organised by All Manipur Working Journalists' Union under the aegis of Chief electoral Office and screening of a film skit show were the other highlight of the observance.
Election Commission of India's Deputy election Commissioner Alok Shukla, Additional Secretary of Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (Sveep) A Tombikanta, AMWJU president A Mobi and Commissioner (tourism) KK Chhetri were also present at the occasion.
In his address as the chief guest, Rameschandra pointed out that aim of National Voters' Day is to introduce and welcome fresh electors to one of the most important components of the democratic exercise.
He exhorted the young voters to exercise their voting right to bring positive change in the society.
On the otherhand, a rally to create awareness among the public for free and fair election in the upcoming Assembly Election, was organised by NCC Cadets of Modern College and JNV, Yaralpat.
The rally, organised at the instructions of the Election Commission of India under the direction of DG, NCC, New Delhi, was flagged off by Associate NCC Officer (ANO) Capt Dr Oinam Ibopishak Singh from Modern College.
The rally was participated by 130 cadets of Modern College and JNV (Yaralpat) as well as three ANOs and some ex Cadets (SUO M Luwangba & SUO T Napoleon).
The highlight of the rally was the slogan - Be a proud voter, Don't sell your vote, Choose a right person, Don't spoil your voting right and Build a strong democracy.
Meanwhile, No 1 (M) Air Sqn (Flg), NCC Imphal also organised "systematic voters education and electoral participation" (Sveep) rally, which was flagged off by Camp Commandant Flt Lt KU Singh.
A total of 350 cadets alongwith 20 PI Staff of No 1 (M) Air Sqn (Flg) NCC participated.
The rally terminated at Koirengei where they conducted Parasailing activity at Old Koirengei Airfield, during which about 100 cadets experienced the adventure of flying in the open sky with a parachute.
This activity was also a part of the ongoing Annual Training Camp of the Squadron which started on January 22.In Jiribam sub-divisional headquarters around 200 NCC Cadets took part in a procession to highlight SVEEP objectives as a part of National Voter's Day observance.
The participants held placards and banners exhorting the voters to exercise their democratic right in a purposeful manner.
