State pays last respect to Suraj

The State today paid a fitting farewell to MLA E Suraj after which the last rites were performed according to customs.
The mortal remains of MLA E Suraj who was killed in a car crash in Delhi on August 18 was brought here today on a flight.
The mortal remains were received at Tulihal Airport by a large number of people from Yaiskul Assembly Constituency, Ministers, MLAs and top-ranking civil and police officials.
From the airport, the corpse was taken to Congress Bhavan where fitting tributes were paid to the late MLA by Congress leaders led by MPCC president Gaikhangam.
The coffin was wrapped with the tri-colour flag of the Congress party and then floral tributes were paid to Suraj.
This was followed by observance of two minutes' silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
Later, the mortal remains of the MLA was taken to his birth-place at Wangkhei Yonglan Leirak along with a procession after passing through different parts of Yaiskul AC.
There people coming from different parts of Yaiskul AC paid their last respects to the departed MLA.
A contingent of Manipur Rifles offered guard of honour and gun salute in honour of late MLA Suraj.

Finally the mortal remains was cremated along with with customary rites and rituals.
Meanwhile condolences continued to pour in from different political parties, organisations and individuals over the demise of Yaiskul A/C MLA E Suraj Singh.
Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat held a condolence meeting at the Assembly complex today.
The meeting was attended by Speaker I Hemochandra, Deputy Speaker Th Lokeshwar, Leader of Opposition, Radhabinod Koijam, Hill Areas Committee Vice Chairman Khangthuanang Panmei, MPCC President Gakhangam, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs and large number of officers and staff of the Assembly Secretariat and relatives of the deceased MLA.
Floral tributes were paid to the mortal remains of E Suraj whose lifeless body was kept for while in the Assembly Secretariat.
Speaker I Hemochandra while remembering his association with E Suraj at St Stephen's College, Delhi expressed profound grief, shock and disbelief at his sudden demise.
The gathering observed two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul, said a press release.
Manipur People's Party (MPP) and its President Dr Nimaichand Luwang also condoled the death of E Suraj.
The MPP President in a condolence message remembered the deceased MLA as a polite, soft spoken and great social worker.
CPI Manipur State Council convened a condolence meeting at Irawat Bhavan on the sudden demise of E Suraj yesterday.
Party leaders who spoke in the meeting remembered him as young and abled MLA.
Suraj's death is an irreparable loss to the State, the meeting observed.

Imphal Municipal Council Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and Councillors also condoled the demise of E Suraj by observing two-minute silence at Municipality hall today.
Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee, Society for Young Generation Upliftment (SYGU), Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Senior Citizens Forum Imphal East, Khurai Block Congress Committee and Paradise Club Wangkhei also condoled the death of E Suraj.
