Ranjit lays guest house foundation stone

Imphal, May 06 2011: With a view to give a shelter for rest and recreation to wayfarers travelling on NH 53, Works Minister K Ranjit laid foundation stone of a guest house at Nungkao, the birth place of freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu.

Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony yesterday, K Ranjit said that the guest house which would benefit not only settlers along side the highway but also all travellers would be constructed at the estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore and would be handed over to the public by December this year.

The guest house would be a symbol for Rani Gaidinliu who paid her life for freedom of Manipur.

Different communities of the State who have lived together throughout its long history spanning longer than 2000 years parted ways after adopting different religious faiths.

It is just about 200 years since Hinduism made its advent in Manipur whereas Christianity is just about 100 years old in the State.

During the bloody years of Naga-Kuki clash, no Kukis from Burma extended any help nor Nagas from Nagaland came for any assistance.

"It was the people of Manipur who suffered together.

Starting from this day marked by laying foundation stone of the Rani Gaidinliu Memorial Guest House, let's bury all our past hatchets and unite together against all the divisive forces directed against us", Ranjit called out.

He also recalled that the SPF Government opened a memorial park on August 29, 2006 in fond memory of Haipou Jadonang at his own graveyard.

The function was also attended by Manipur Pollution Control Board Chairman E Dwijamani, MLA Awangbou Newmai, Principal Secretary (Works) R Muivah, Tamenglong ADC Chairman Nungsup Pamei, PWD Chief Engineer M Lokendro, Additional Chief Engineer Temba and other top officials.

The Works Minister and his team were accorded warm reception at different points along Imphal-Jiribam highway during his inspection tour of the highway development work.

Presenting gifts and cultural programmes to the visiting official team, the local people also submitted different memoranda to the Minister for various kinds of development works.

In response, Ranjit assured that the necessary development works would be taken up in sequence.
