Imphal, August 02: Dr Ksh Manglem, who along with two other forensic experts, conducted the second post mortem examination on the body of Th Manorama testified before the Upendra Commission today and reported that no conclusive opinion can be passed on whether the deceased woman was raped or not because of the injuries present around the genital.

Giving his statement, Dr Manglem said that the assailant, while firing might have stood by the side of the victim with the gun muzzle directed downwards and towards the lower part of the body.

The injuries around the genital may be due to the bullet passing through her back with the victim facing the ground and the assailant who pulled the trigger might have been standing in an oblique direction to the body, testified the doctor.

The victim might have also received more gun shots while in an upward position.

The post mortem examination also could not confirm whether the injuries on the genital and its areas might have destroyed any evidence of rape or sexual assault, said the doctor.

If there were any such assault, evidence could have been found by the autopsy surgeons despite the gun shot wounds, said Dr Manglem.

The doctor further said that there could have been profuse bleeding at the spot where Manorama was shot dead.

The injuries were ante-mortem and death was instantaneous.

A sealed bottle containing the urinary bladder, uterus along with the vaginal swab, scalp and pubic hair preserved in formalin solution and one video cassette recording the conduct of the post mortem have been handed over to the Investigating Officer, the doctor informed the panel.

Dr Manglem will further testify before the panel tomorrow while the other two doctors, who were on duty with Dr Manglem, will also be examined within this week, said Commission sources.
