All the Thoubei, Women societies, clubs and other organi- sations of Zeliangrong Community settling in valley areas have unanimously resolved to take part and contribute their mite towards the cause for removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur.
A decision to this effect was arrived at during a joint meeting held under the aegis of All Zeliangrong Arts and Cultural Organization, (AZACO), Manipur yesterday at Kakhulong Junior High School.
The meeting attended by representatives of all the Thoubei, women societies, clubs/organizations of Zeliangrong community settling in valley area thoroughly discussed the pre- vailing situation in the State in the wake of mass protest against the excesses being committed by security personnel with immunity granted under draconian laws at Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
ACOAM-Lup vice president Lanjaigai Kabui and Kanglamei general secretary Ima Kakomlunglu Kabui were also present during the meeting.
Endorsing the cause of the people, the meeting strongly condemned killing of Thangjam Manorama in the custody of 17 Assam Rifles and demanded punishment of the guilty AR personnel and revocation of AFSPA from Manipur.
The meeting further resolved to put pressure on the Government for recognizing Haipou Jadonnang and declared his death anniversary which falls on August 29 every year as a State holiday.
Manipuri staff in Food Corporation of India, Dimapur during held a meeting at Hotel Sente, Dimapur on July 25 have strongly condemned custodial killing of Thangjam Manorama by 17 Assam Rifles personnel which have sparked off mass protest and demand for revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur.
The meeting observed two minute silence as mark of respect to the departed soul of Manorama, yet another victim of security forces.
The meeting also collected Rs 3200 from among the Manipuri staff for donating towards the emergency relief committees being opened to look after the need of the people who suffered casualties during the course of the ongoing public movement.
The donation amount is said to have been handed over to HERICOUN which is among the 32 organizations spearheading the movement.
Meanwhile, CPI, Kakching Local Council while endorsing the party�s stand for removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur has announced that it would also be extending full support to the ongoing public movement.
Naoriya Kendra Women�s Welfare Association, New Age Club, Singjamei Thongam Leikai; Star Sporting Club, Porompat while extending their support to the ongoing public movement have also decried use of force against the peaceful protestors by State police personnel.
Leimarol Apunba Lup Singjamei Chinga Makha Chongtham Leikai while expressing its support to the agitation launched by the 32 voluntary organisations have warned of intensifying the agitation until and unless the AFSPA was lifted and killers of Mano-rama punished according to the law of the land.
Meanwhile, members of the nine meira paibi lup of Keishamthong area in a meeting held today have also extended its support and cooperation to the ongoing agitation against the killing of Thanjam Manorama and revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
