The Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) today celebrated Information and Public Relations Day with Parliamentary Secretary for IPR K Meghachandra Singh gracing the event held at DIPR office as the chief guest.
Expressing elation on DIPR honouring its retired personnel on the occasion, the MLA highlighted that inspite of DIPR being a low profile department its activities is compatible with the busiest departments in both the State and the Centre.
Through the print and electronic media DIPR has been appreciably playing the key role of disseminating important information to the public about launch or implementation of various welfare schemes/policies, noted Meghachandra who further stated that IPR is the crucial link between the people and the Government, particularly in democratic countries.
apart from informing the masses about the Government policies and schemes, DIPR has been playing equally important role of conveying wishes and suggestions from the general public to the Government through constant and cordial relationships and covering activities of NGOs.

Regretting that much progress could not be achieved in completing the new DIPR office building owing to fund paucity, the MLA however, informed that following budgetary allocation for DIPR this financial year there is high expectation that the building construction work could be expedited.
Meghachandra also drew the attention of the CM for necessary measures to fill in vacant post in the Department as DIPR currently faces man-power inadequacy consequent to retirement of senior employees.
Commissioner (IPR) Letkhogin Haokip and Director (DIPR) W Rajen also attended the event.
Information and Public Relation Day was observed in Thoubal as well.
The function was organised by District Information Office at DIO office of Mini Secretarite North Block, Thoubal.
Thoubal Block Panchayat Parishad Secretary Khundrakpam Khomei, Thoubal SDC (Hqs), Ph Bhavananda and Deputy Superintendent of Excise S Nasir attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Talkers of the function spoke on various activities being carried out by District Information Office, Thoubal.
Later, seven media persons of the district were feted at the function.
