Imphal, November 27 2014:
The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has instructed the State Government to finish the ongoing process of biometrics enrolment for the National Population Registry by March next year.
In line with the PMO's instruction, due arrangements have been made for opening permanent camps at all sub-divisional headquarters for biometrics enrolment, informed an official source.
Meanwhile, the Director General (Census) has convened a meeting with the concerned State Government officials at Delhi on December 17 to discuss about the progress of biometrics enrolment in Manipur.
The Chief Secretary and the Census Director would attend the meeting.
Informing that the work of biometrics enrolment for the whole State has been completed by 50 per cent, the source disclosed that the process remains very tardy in hill districts though the same process is making good progress in the valley districts.
The enrolment process could not make the desired progress in the hill districts particularly Senapati and Ukhrul on account of law and order situation and other factors.
The State Government's proposal to speed up the biometrics enrolment process by opening permanent camps at the sub-divisional level has been approved by the Home Ministry.
As such, permanent biometrics enrolment camps would be opened at 47 sub-divisions.
Another permanent camp has been already opened at the office of the Directorate of Census, Porompat, added the source.
