With exception to districts where repoll is pending, the Election Commission of India has lifted certain restrictions imposed as part of regulating the Model Code of Conduct in all the States where polling has been completed.
According to a directive issued by the Secretary of Election Commission of India K Ajaya Kumar yesterday, activities like tours of Ministers to districts and accompaniment of officers on such tours; review and implementation of ongoing programmes in the field; review with field officers (except for the officers who are on election duty); calling a review meeting of officers at headquarters (except for the officers who are on election duty) and calling for bids, evaluation of bids, finalisation of bids and award of contracts (except in States where the general election are being held for the State Assembly) would be allowed.
CrPC invoked : Citing strong apprehension of causing serious breach of peace and disturbances in public tranquillity and grave danger to human lives and properties in and around Imphal East DC office complex and DIC complex Imphal bounded by Porompat-Baruni road in the North and Thawanthaba Leikai in the South, District Magistrate Imphal East has imposed restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC in the said area with immediate effect.
As per the prohibitory issued by the District Magistrate, assembly of five or more persons and carrying of sticks, stones, firearms and weapons of any descriptions or objects which can be used as offensive weapons have been prohibited.
However, this order shall not apply to Government agencies involved in the enforcement of law and order, maintenance of essential services and election related works.
