Imphal, September 24:
The Divisional Commissioner-I Ch Birendra today affirmed that the Government has agreed to increase the monetary aid promised to victims of the Uripok fire on September 12 from Rs 500 each to Rs 1000 each.
In addition to this utensils and clothes will also be distributed.
He was speaking at the closing function of the relief camp opened to provide help to victims of the devastating fire.
Ch Birendra further said plans are afoot to help the victims rebuild their homes which were razed to the ground in the blazing inferno.
Dwelling on the difficulties faced by fire brigade personnel, the official said in many cases rescue works launched by the firemen are severely hampered due to the over crowding of Imphal city.
Many a time paths are blocked by the narrow and congested streets, he said.
As such he appealed to the people not to encroach on public land during construction.
Imphal West DC H Imocha also promised the people that the Government will do its best to extend all possible help to the victims.
The relief camp was organized by the Imphal Sporting Club and Khwai Brahmapur Meira Paibis.
