Simplex sets June 6 deadline for Sanjenthong

Accompanied by top officials of PWD and IFCD, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi along with Works Minister Kh Ratankumartoday inspected the work progress of Sanjenthong bridge which is currently under construction.
According to an official of PWD, Simplex Project Pvt Ltd started construction of the bridge on May 30, 2014 and has fixed June 6, 2015 as the deadline for the completion of the bridge.
He said that construction of the bridge could not be completed before last year's Manipur Sangai Festival as top chords and hangers, which were imported from France did not reach on time.
However, some top chords have started arriving and it would be fixed soon as the bottom structure of the bridge are ready now, the official said.
Informing that metallic hangers are also on the way, the official expressed hope that these materials would reach the State capital soon.
The four-lane bridge is to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 28 crore, the official said and added that the width of the bridge is 22.40 metres and length is 55.80 metres.
The official said that the bridge would have 5-ft footpaths on either sides.
Maintaining that the bridge would be an engineering marvel of the State, the official said that the bridge and its surrounding would be electrified with colourful lights to attract visitors.
He added that the Government is also planning to beautify the ambience of the bridge by releasing ducks around it.
Stating that fixing and erection of metallic materials, which are imported from foreign countries, would not take time, the official said that Simplex Project Pvt Ltd has fixed June 6, 2015 as the deadline for the completion of the bridge.
The official said that a concrete retaining wall would be constructed on the northern bank of the bridge.
During his visit, the Chief Minister told the officials of IFCD and PWD that retaining walls are a must to protect the river banks from soil erosion due to strong water current.
He also directed the officials to construct the retaining wall in a way to add beauty to the ambience of the bridge.
