Imphal, March 19 2015:
Challou Village Authority (CVA) on Thursday alleged that a nine kilometre long stretch of road which connects Challou and Kuingai villages under Package No 978/NIT No 5/16/13, Phase IX and II of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) has been diverted to suit the interest of the contractor.
Talking to the media in Imphal, CVA Secretary SH Shatsang informed that according to the original Detailed Project Report (DPR), Challou and Kuingai villages were to be connected.
He further alleged that contrary to the DPR, the road has been diverted cutting off connectivity between the two villages.
CVA has now asked the authority to look into the matter and rectify the diversion based on the original DPR for the larger interest of the people and the areas which has been neglected over a period of time.
Shatsang also informed that road construction works from Challou to Tusom under Package No 0955, Phase VIII Part II has also been halted for reasons best known to the responsible department.
CVA also argued that rural connectivity in the Indo-Myanmar border areas under Chingai Sub-Division, Ukhrul District is likely to be left out from the overall developmental programmes sponsored by the central government.
The village authority said rural connectivity in the hill areas should be accorded top priority so as to keep the villages within the region connected considering the socio-economic issues faced by the villagers in the area.
