Rehab work on potholed NH-2 begins

Repairing work on the dilapidated portions of NH-2 between Koirengei and Chingmeirong has started from today.
The Sangai Express had begun a countdown to keep a tab on when the rehabilitation programme of the said stretch would begin after the story was published on February 7. It is said that the repairing work would be completed within a week.
For periodical repairing of 6.60 Kms long section, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways sanctioned Rs 474 lakhs on January 24 last year.
As per the work order for repairing this section of the NH 2, the estimated cost was Rs 432 lakhs.
The contract work for repairing the road was issued to special contractor Md Nasir but the work was executed by sub-contractor Okram Rishi.
Talking to The Sangai Express, some PWD officials said that out of the work order amount of Rs 432 lakhs, Rs 1,29,95,086 has been released to the contractor.
Moreover, Rs 1,77,760 has been released for hot mix plant and another Rs 72,160 for paver.
In addition to the remaining amount of the estimated cost, Rs 7,49,152 for security deposit and Rs 21,60,000 for performance bond are with the department.

The 6.60 Kms long section should be repaired and covered with a 25 to 30 mm thick layer of bitumen.
The officials further informed that the road repairing work which began today would be completed within a week.
The road was repaired to be on time for the visit of the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi on December 3 last year.
