Kangpokpi, August 09 2021:
The prolonged imposition of curfew in the state left many vulnerable families on the brink of starvation and at this critical juncture InSIDE-North East, a non-profit organisation, has reached out to around 3000 families in Manipur by distributing ration kit which could sustain them for at least a month.
The organisation with relief materials in two trucks distributed ration and medical care kit to 270 families of (Lambung) Joujangtek area covering three districts - Noney, Kangpokpi and Churachandpur - such as Dolkng, Longsai, Joujangtek, Joupi, Kungpi Naosen, Boljol, Lhangnom, Hengmol, Songjang and Purum Likli.
Hejang Misao, director InSIDE-North East said that with Manipur becoming Covid red zone "we can't remain silent spectators for which we have swung into action with a strong conviction that what we do are part of the fight against Covid.
We consider ourselves Covid warriors because in the present predicament, we have only two options - either die of Covid or hunger and we feel both should be addressed".
He continued that medical team is doing its best to contain further spread of the virus and the InSIDE-North East - appreciated by the President of India and the then DC of Kangpokpi for its commendable work - took up the relief service so that "we meet the challenges squarely and successfully overcome the threat that looms large with concerted efforts".
"The big smile of the people in real need is the energy that drives us to continue the service," Hejang added while expressing sincere gratitude to Crypto Relief India and Umeed Project on behalf of the people of Manipur for the ration kit supplies.
He stated that with their support the NGO was able to supply medical equipment such as oxygen concentrator, cylinder, etc, to health centres in Tengnoupal and Kangpokpi districts.
The InSIDE North East also distributed medical care kit supplied by Goonj to the Covid Task Forces formed by the district administration.
The kit contained two thermometers, pulse oximeter, thermo-gun, 10 packets of multi-vitamin, five sanitizers, ORS, paracetamol, surgical gloves, masks.
With the support from Breath for India, face masks were distributed freely to people who came forward for vaccination.
