WRD monitoring rainfall situation

Imphal, May 13 2022:
The Water Resources Department (WRD) has informed that in view of the incessant rainfall in the catchment area of Ithai Barrage and possible flooding of low lying areas, chief minister N Biren has given instruction for continuous monitoring of the flood-like situation and accordingly, appropriate measures have been taken up at the site of the barrage by the department.
CMD, NHPC and group general manager of Loktak Power Station have discussed the matter.
As per the statement at present, barrage and power house are under normal operation.
Normal Full Reservoir Level (FRL) is being maintained in the upstream of Imphal River and normal Water level is observed in the Loktak Lake.
According to the statement of the department, as of now, the gates of the barrage are being operated as per the Standard Operating Protocol.
Against the normal discharge of about 90 cubic metre per second (cumec), flood discharge at about 235 cumec is passing safely downstream and central gate is already kept open with a gate opening to 1.5 metre level.
The department has also opened control room in connection with situation and is kept on full alert to deal with any flood like situation.
