Court reprieved for the disabled

In a case 'All Tribal Disabled's Union, Manipur versus the state of Manipur and six others', the High Court of Manipur has passed an interim order directing the respondents to give 3 percent reservation to the physically challenged while recruiting a total of 898 posts of chowkidar-cum-peon on contract basis for the schools under the six Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) .
In the petition filed by ATDUM before the Manipur High Court, it prayed for directing the respondents for quashing and setting aside the notifications requisitioning candidates sent through the Employment Exchanges advertising for 898 posts of chowkidar-cum-peon for appointment on contract basis for the schools under the six ADCs-Churachandpur, Chandel, Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul-by the Chief Executive Officers of the ADCs for holding the DPCs, Momo Tatanga, president, ATDUM said while addressing the media here at the union's office on Wednesday.
He said the High Court ruling has directed the respondents mainly the Chief Executive Officers of ADCs Churachanpur and Ukhrul districts not to fill up 3 percent of the total posts till the next date.
The court has also directed that if the results of the DPCs have been considered, appointment to 3 percent of the total posts shall not be made, Tatanga cited.
