Imphal, December 05 2013:
The Joint Working Committee (JWC) of the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and United People's Front (UPF) the umbrella organisations of Kuki armed groups on tripartite SoO pact, has decided to determine its own course if political dialogue is not initiated before the coming Lok Sabha election.
This was among other resolutions adopted during a meeting of the Joint Working Committee of the UPF and KNO held at Churachandpur on December 3 .
Apart from deciding to rejuvenate the Joint Working Committee of UPF and KNO, a decision was made during the meeting that the UPF and KNO need to go together on issues common to them inspite of the differences in political ideology and demand.
"If political dialogue is not initiated before the coming Lok Sabha election the joint groups will decide which is best for them," the resolutions of the JWC meeting made available to the press stated.
The meeting further decided to hold a press meet within this month wherein future course of action will be made public.
The tripartite SoO pact was signed among the State and Central Govt and the Kuki based underground groups in 2008 to pave way for political dialogue.
The Govt is yet to initiate any form of political dialogue with the concerned groups so far, said the JWC statement issued by David Haokip, member of the JWC.
In view of this, the UPF and KNO had several rounds of joint meeting last year and the outcome was the formation of the Joint Working Committee of UPF and KNO.
The Committee is made up of five nominees each from both the UPF and the KNO camps.
The committee was to function under the joint convenorship of Calvin of ZRA and Hellen Kipgen of KNO.
The JWC of UPF-KNO is supposed to function like a standing committee of the UPF and KNO, the statement added.
