Imphal, December 05 2013:
As the Manipur State is situated along with the border line with neighboring Myanmar, it has been always the transit point for drug smuggling.
But today, the illegal business of motor engines has come up.
With the purported report of opening of a motor boat manufacturing factory in Myanmar, there is strong apprehension in the State Transport Department that the rise in incident of vehicle thefts in the State might be linked with opening of the said motor boat factory in Myanmar.
Sources from Transport Department said there is high demand of motor engines in Myanmar as motor engines of two-wheeler scooters could be fitted easily in motor boats and were proved to be handy and useful and that there is possibility that stolen vehicles from the State might be transported to Myanmar.
The sources further informed that vehicles in Dimapur and Kohima are fully computerized.
So, it is most unlikely that the stolen vehicles from Nagaland could be smuggled into Myanmar due to the high risk involved.
In Assam also, there is no such places where stolen vehicles could be sold as it might be caught easily.
It is not that no vehicles were lifted despite using the High Security Number Plate.
In fixing High Security Plate, there contains a particular pin number which could not be removed.
If someone wishes to remove it then it has to be broken, sources disclosed.
