Imphal, November 13 2017:
Parents and well-wishers have called for Sapamcha Kangleipal, former president of the Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) who is in hiding, to reconsider his decision to sacrifice his life in the name of the indigenous people.
While addressing directly to his son, Sapam Shyamsunder, father of Kangleipal saidin an interaction with the mediapersons today at his residence at Nongada Awang Leikai in Imphal Eastthat Kangleipal seemed to have taken the decision in haste and added he should give it a second thought.
Shyamsunder's public announcement came after Kangleipal's declaration through media that he will sacrifice his life by setting himself on fire on November 25 in front of Kangla Gate, which will also form a part of the forthcoming Maoist Communist Party's campaign for the protection of indigenous people that will begin on November 18 .
He charged the Government had taken his son into custody by force.
While adding his son was influenced by a deep desire for social change but never into the path of militants, Shyamsunder informed a Court had held Kangleipal innocent, but the Government of the day re-arrested his son under the National Security Act (NSA) .
The father said his son's escape from the jail had only saddened him more.
During those days while his son was in prison, he told the gathering that Kangleipal would often speak of an inevitable custodial death.
Even if the previous regime was responsible for the disappearance of his son, Shyamsunder made a public request that the present Government-should save his son's life.
He said he had also sold his farmstead while searching for his son yet he will keep waiting for Kangleipal's return.
On May 7, 2008, police had apprehended Kangleipal from outside the Manipur Press Club on the charge of sedition.
He was produced before the Court on May 13 and released on bail but subsequently he was arrested under the NSA.
Further on December 28 in that year, while he was still imprisoned, he escaped from the JNIMS Security Ward and has been in hiding.
Kangleipal's mother, Sapam Ibemcha, also appealed to the Govemment.to saVe her son.
She said her son is a civilian and not connected to any outlawed organisation.
Meanwhile, people from the adjoining villages of Nongada Awang Leikai gathered today at the neighbourhood market for a public meeting to give the message that Kangleipal should reconsider his decision to give up his life.
While the gathering declard ""we will no let you die" .
