Imphal, December 05 2013:
A meeting of Joint Working Committee of United Peoples Front (UPF) and Kuki National Organization (KNO) held on December 3 at Churanchanpur has various resolutions.
Accordingly, it has been decided that the Joint Working Committee of UPF and KNO (JWC UPF-KNO) would be revamping itself, according to a statement issued by David Haokip, UKLF, and Member, JWC UPF-KNO.
If the political dialogue is not initiated before the coming Lok Sabha election, the joint group has decided to take further course of action in this regard and announced the same publicity within a month's time, David added.
He further informed that in spite of the differences in political ideology and demand, the need for UPF and KNO to go together on issues common to them was acknowledged.
The tripartite SoO pact was signed involving the state and the central govt and the Kuki based underground groups in 2008 so that the political issue will be discussed and decided in table talk without going into war and bloodshed.
But the govt is yet to initiate any form of political dialogue so far.
In view of this, the UPF and KNO had several round of joint meetings last year and the outcome was the formation of the Joint Working Committee of UPF and KNO, David explained.
The Committee is made up of 5 members each from both UPF and KNO.
The committee was to function under the joint convenorship of Calvin of ZRA and Hellen Kipgen of KNO.
It was also agreed that the JWC UPF-KNO will function like a standing committee of UPF and KNO, David added.
