Imphal, July 01 2011:
Bragging about development works being taken up in Imphal will not make Manipur a developed state, chided Manipur People's Party (MPP) president Dr Nimaichand Luwang, taking a quick cue from the chief minister's challenge that any information about corrupt Congress ministers be brought to his notice.
Speaking to media persons at the party's head office in Imphal today, Dr Luwang said that the recent visit to the state by Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Luizinho Falerio and the consequent political conference of the state Congress party were enacted to hoodwink the people of the state and there was no substance in it.
"Bragging about development works which is highly concentrated within Imphal City will not make the state developed," he said, adding that the state government has not executed even 40 percent of development works meant for the state.
"Only when 24 hours electricity supply, safe drinking water and quality education have reached every nook and crannies of Manipur can the state be declared developed," chided MPP president.
"At least 70 percent of Central funds meant for the development of the state have either been misappropriated or misused by the ruling Congress party," he alleged, and concluded that "the Congress led Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government has miserably failed to translate the aspiration of the people of the state on all fronts " .
He went on to find faults with the government saying that ever since the inauguration of the big ticket Khuga Multipurpose Dam not even a single person has benefited.
"Fake documents were issued and proxy withdrawals were rampant in the functioning of the lofty MGNREGS, as also unearthing of issuance and maintaining of job cards in the name of deceased persons," Dr Luwang alleged.
"In the name of Mahatma Gandhi the Congress party is earning easy money and plundering the state,"
he said.
Taking a continuous dig at the government, he said that "PDS items are not distributed in the state as prescribed by norms and that the distribution system has been co-opted by the party to award Congress Mahila members" .
Dr Luwang stated that he was only speaking out because the chief minister had on June 27 at the Congress political conference vouched for the sanctity of his ministers saying any information about corruption should be brought to his notice.
Demanding a CBI inquiry into allegations of fund embezzlement in MGNREGS, MPP president said that if the state government does not act on the complaints his party (MPP) will take recourse to law court.
