Tamenglong women evoke the power of flower on their day

Tamenglong, March 09 2014:
With an aim to promote the habit of cultivating flower plants for selling the natural fresh flowers in the open market, Indigenous Women and Children Foundation (IWCF) Tamenglong on Saturday observed International Women's Day along with organising a Flower Exhibition Competition cum Sale at the Mini Stadium of Tamenglong HQs.
The event was attended by Luichumthing Ragui, Additional Superintendant of Police as chief guest, Dr Chambo Gonmei, Chief Medical Officer of Tamenglong as Guest of honour and N.Ashinlliu Riamei, President of Zeliangrong Pui Baudi as functional president.
Anina Kamei, Vice President of IWCF, spoke on the theme of the observance as a resource person and highlighted a number of issues related to violent against women as well as in equality/ gender bias, suppression and discrimination faced by women.
In his speech as chief guest, Luichumthing Ragui explained about the new law called Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 and requested all to report to the police within 24 hours if anybody committed sexual offense on children for necessary punishment of the culprit.
Dr Chambo Gonmei highlighted a number of schemes being implemented to empower women in the district.
Earlier, delivering the key note address, Asongdin Kamei, President of IWCF said that flowers make the building/ house beautiful and dignified.
By planting flowers in the house, one can als help in fighting global warming.
Ginbuanlung Gangmei, Horticulture Officer of Tamenglong and N.Ashinliu Riamei, President of Zeliangrong Pui Baudi also spokes on the occasion.
In the Flower Exhibition Competition, the award for best natural flower garden was bagged by stall no.20 of Damari.
Stall no.25 of Poudonliu and stall no.23 of Ceroline respectively won the second and third respectively.
The top three prizes carry cash reward of Rs.7000, Rs.5000 and Rs 3000 respectively.
Apart from 10 consolation prizes, each of the participants was also given 1 kg of organic manure.
