Imphal, April 30 2014:
The Friends' Rural Development Centre (FRDC), Nongmeibung Wangkheirakpam Leikai has urged the Works Minister to construct two diversion bridges on both sides of Sanjenthong before the bridge is dismantled to facilitate the commencement of the new bridge construction.
In a representation to the Works Minister, the FRDC pointed out that Thumbuthong said to serve as an alternative to Sanjenthong, remains inaccessible since many years back due to the existence of a small river bank on one side and human settlement on the other side.
Evicting the settlement area would be a herculean task.
In such a situation, pedestrians and motorists would choose to take Minuthong, which is also in the same bad condition of Sanjenthong.
As such, it is pertinent to construct two diversion bridges on both sides of the present Sanjenthong before it is dismantled as a temporary measure to avoid public inconveniences, the memo urged.
