Aizawl, April 30 2014:
Mizoram Home minister R.Lalzirliana feared that Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla's life is completely in danger as there is a general threat perception that some elements supported by the opposition parties might assassinate him.
Speaking to media persons at a press conference held at New Secretariat Complex here on April 29, the Mizoram Home minister said that there have been allegations of EVM rigging by which the Chief Minister has allegedly retained his power despite losing the election in fact in the last assembly election.
Because of such perception some self styled 'nationalists' incited by the oratory of opposition leaders may have an intention to assassinate the Chief Minister as a noble deed, the Mizoram home minister said.
"There is an intense desire to defame the reputation of Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla and intriguing intention to remove him permanently from the political scene which may adversely bring danger to the Chief Minister's life", the Home minister said adding that despite the repeated dismissal of allegations on EVM being rigged by the chief minister and a general belief that EVM is not liable to be tampered based on the ECI's declaration, there are some vested interests including opposition leaders who intentionally opined that EVM had been rigged in the last assembly election for political reason.
Sensing the intensity of the situation and ominous danger on the life of the Chief Minister, more security would be deployed for the chief minister, Lalziliana added.
Home Minister Lalzirliana also accused opposition leaders of misleading the people with baseless allegation.
"Opposition leaders with the help of their vindictive oratory tried to infuriate the public against the Chief Minister and the Congress government", he said.
"As a matter of fact, some vested nationalists acting upon the enticing comment of opposition leaders may dare to kill the Chief Minister like Mahatma Gandhi (the father of Indian nation) and Abraham Lincoln (being killed for his fight against racial discrimination), the Home Minister added.
