Chief Information Commissioner of the Manipur Information Commission, RK Angousana has directed the SPIO/DC Imphal East district to compensate Ningombam Ngangbi, wife of N Nanda Meitei of Khongman Zone V with Rs 6000 for failing to furnish information sought under RTI Act.
According to a statement issued by the MACHA LEIMA RTI coordinator, N Gunileima, Ngangbi had submitted an application on November 7 last year to the SPIO/DC Imphal East requesting him to furnish information under RTI Act regarding the implementation of NREGS in Khongman Gram Panchayat.
It stated that Ngangbi was threatened to withdraw the application from various quarters which she ignored.
Failing to receive the information from the SPIO/DC Imphal East in 30 days, Ngangbi then filed a complaint case with the Manipur Information Commission on December 29 last year.
Upon the direction, the SPIO provided information to Ngangbi which according to Ngangbi was false and misleading, the statement stated.
On May 25 this year, the CIC directed the SPIO to provide the required information and also to submit a show cause reply as to why a penalty would not be awarded to him for his irresponsible manner as SPIO by
June 6 .
Failing to provide reasonable response, the CIC issued an order directing the SPIO to compensate the complainant Ngangbi by July 31 for causing 'unnecessary harassment to her,' it added.
