Imphal, August 09 2021:
Congress Legislature Party (CLP) discussed issues to be brought up in the ensuing state assembly session during a meeting held at Congress Bha-wan here on Monday.
As the assembly session, which will begin from August 20, will have only two sittings, it would be difficult to bring up a large number of issues and as such, the CLP meeting reportedly decided to bring up some key issues concerning the state such as Covid-19, farmers' plight including fertiliser crisis, PDS item and fuel price hike to have fruitful discussion.
The meeting also resolved to decide on candidates from different assembly constituencies for the next assembly election and to work from the grassroots level to increase the party strength ahead of the forthcoming state assembly election.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) vice-president (media) MLA K Meghachandra said that CLP leader ex-CM 0 Ibobi and AICC CWC member Gaikhangam, MLAs N Loken, Dr Chaltonlien Amo, TN Haokip, K Meghachandra, K Ranjit, DK Korungthang, Th Lokeshwar, DD Thaisii, Ak Mirabai, Md Fajur Rahim, Kh Joykisan and 0 Surjakumar attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, AICC has appointed the party's senior leaders Jairam Ramesh and P Chidambaram as the observers of Manipur and Goa respectively for the forthcoming assembly election.
They have also been entrusted with the responsibility of chalking out poll strategies for emerging victorious in the assembly elections of the two states.
In both states, the Congress had finished as the largest party just short of a majority and was outmanoeuvred by the BJP, and then saw a mass exodus of party MLAs to it - over a dozen lawmakers in Goa since 2017.So, the challenge for both leaders will be to win the elections as well as keep the flock together.
