Rs 190 cr plus utilised in Covid battle: Dr K Rajo

College of Nursing, Medical Directorate celebrated its 9th Foundation Day along with the oath taking ceremony of the First Year BSc Nursing students at the conference hall of the college in Lamphelpat on Friday.
Speaking as chief guest of the event, Health Services director Dr K Rajo informed that the government utilised around Rs 90 crore during the first wave of Covid-19 pandemic, and over Rs 100 crore during the second wave.
Expressing regret over the media reports accusing the department of misusing the funds, the director said that it is neither compulsory to publish nor appropriate to make people aware of the matters of the department.
If anyone is interested, they are welcome to come to the office to learn about the functioning of the department, Dr Rajo stated, while urging all concerned not to make statements against the government without knowing the truth.
Dr Rajo then appreciated the Biren-led government for introducing the MA Sc Nursing course in the college, which in turn has helped in the progress of the college.
Regarding the oath taking ceremony, the director pointed out that nursing is an important profession as nurses play a huge role in treatment of patients.
The director also mentioned about the recruitment of around 1500 contract staff during the pandemic, of which 1000 consisted of nurses.
Many nurses lost their lives in the fight against the pandemic and it is all because of the hard work of the nurses during the first and second wave of the pandemic that the situation has been almost brought under control today.
He appealed to the people to strictly follow the Covid Appropriate Behaviour and get vaccinated at the earliest so as to contain the infectious virus completely.
Urging the nursing students to pursue their course diligently, the director emphasised on the wide scope of nursing.
Additionally, many district hospitals are in the process of being constructed, the funds for which had been diverted elsewhere due to the pandemic.
Once the said health centres are opened, there will be a sudden rise in the demand for nurses.
Presided over by College of Nursing principal Prof N Nalinibala, the function was attended by State Mission director Dr N Shyamjai, AYUSH director Dr A Guneshwor Sharma and MU Controller of Examinations Prof Ng Nimai as guests of honour.
As a part of the ceremony, Prof N Nalinibala administered oath to the First Year BSc Nursing students and also presented mementos to meritorious students of the college.
