Tangkhul bodies draw CM's attention

Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Imphal (TKLI) and Imphal Tangkhul Shanao Long (ITSL) have jointly submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh over the unfortunate demise of Reingamphy Awungshi of Choithar village, Ukhrul at Chirag Delhi, New Delhi on May 29 and drawn the attention for State Government for taking up necessary measures to redress effectively the crimes being committed against its people outside the State.
Signed jointly by President of TKLI Pamreiso Raiping and President of ITSL Grace T Shatsang, the memorandum pointed out that Reingamphy Awangshi was only 21 years of age, but due to economic hardship, she had no option but to become a bread earner of her family and she went to Delhi to work.
Unfortunately, her life was cut short unceremoniously.
This was not a rare incident of Manipuri youths, either studying or working outside the State, ending with such fate, the memorandum said, and recounted the incident of Ramchanphy Hongray of Ukhrul who was brutally murdered in New Delhi in 2009, Loitam Richard of Imphal who was beaten to death by his hostel colleagues in Bangalore in 2012 among other cases.
The memorandum demanded that the Government of Manipur to extend whatsoever help and co-operation required towards finding out the truth behind the case of Reingamphy and also prepared a detailed report regarding the unwanted incident happenings to the Manipuris outside the State and apprise the general public about the preventive measures taken up to check recurrence of such incidents
in future.
In due consideration of the economic condition of the family of Reingamphy, the memorandum has also urged the Government of Manipur to arrange an alternative source of livelihood of the remaining family members for sustenance.
Meanwhile, All India Tribal Students' Association, Manipur has submitted a memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam asking for his kind intervention in the suspected murder case of Reingamphy Awungshi inside her rented room in New Delhi.
