Imphal, December 28 2012:
PIB Defence Wing has refuted the report on assaulting two persons including a leader of Zeliangrong Students' Union by personnel of 10th Assam Rifles at Tamenglong district on December 26 .
In a rebuttal, PIB Defence Wing informed that on receiving information about NSCN (K) and NNC cadres moving in a white scorpio Regn No AS-03/T1-2927 from Rongkhong to Noney on December 26, a mobile Check post was established by 10 Assam Rifles under Red Shield Division for spot checking at Noney.
The cadres were somehow intimated of the same and therefore disembarked from the Scorpio and escaped in a Hyundai Ascent bearing Regn No DL 4 C M 2159 being driven by David Kamei.
10 Assam Rifles followed this vehicle and apprehended David Kamei and an individual named Obed.
The cadres of NSCN (K) and NNC had however managed to escape from the vehicle.
The two individuals were detained for questioning and later considering the plea of Siganrei Kamei, brother of David Kamei, wife of David Kamei, father Khangsong Kamei and his uncle Kakugai Kamei who had come to request for his release on the ground that he is young and foolish and due to wrong company is going on a wayward path were released unharmed with a strict warning.
The allegation of the individuals being blind folded, stripped and kept in a cold till 01 AM in the morning are totally baseless.
The family of the said individual who is also a member of ZSUM gave their assurance that David and Obed will not be involved in any wrong activity in future.
The unit keeping in mind young age of the two individuals released them to the family without initiating any police action for helping in the escape of the underground cadres.
David Kamei has been an active member of ZSUM in the area and has been actively involved in perpetuating law and order problems during the bands and blockades.
Assam Rifles at Noney has been working relentlessly towards peace and establishing a secure environment in the area by tirelessly carrying out operations against underground groups.
The area has seen total peace for many months now for the first time a many years.
The peace of this area is being hampered by illegal actions such as extortion by UG groups who are sadly being supported by individuals such as David Kamei.
It is sad that un parliamentary language, calling Assam Rifles as "FOX IN SHEEP SKIN" has been used by students body ZSUM and allowed to be published in an esteemed newspaper.
Assam Rifles will not be deterred by malicious comments of miscreants and will carry on with the task of ensuring peace in the area.
Security Forces in Noney has rendered humane service to people of the area and will continue to ensure just and lawful action against Under Grounds Cadres and miscreants who support them, the statement added.
