Imphal, January 18 2009:
The Social Action Committee, Yaishkul (SAC) organized a sit in protest by blocking the Yaishkul Road connecting with the National Highway 39 at Keishamthong today.
The protest was held against keeping the Yaishkul Road broken and unfinished for the past 5 years.
Joint conveners of SAC, Ayekpam Keinatombi and Keisham Memcha while speaking to our staff reporter said that the developmental plans and constructions taken up by the current government is just for the namesake and without any sense of responsibility of social welfare.
SAC condemned the road condition of the Yaishkul Road maintained by the government since the last five years.
They also said that the Banyan tree, also known as Heishnam Lairembi grown at the gate of First MR is had been unanimously resolved by our ancestors not to cut it down.
SAC questioned the government for starting to cut the Banyan tree under his plan of road expansion.
SAC also complained against the low quality of wall constructed at the bank of Nambul in front of Yaishkul saying that the wall has started forming cracks causing threat to the locality on rainy seasons.
SAC appealed the government to complete the construction of the Yaishkul Road and also to rebuild the retaining wall of Nabul Bank with quality as soon as possible.
SAC had resolved to continue the road-block sit-in-protest till the construction of the Yaishkul Road.
