18 SIKH and 40 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector AR, 22 Assam Rifles of 28 Sector AR and 16 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR(S) distributed Solar Street lights in Lilong Chajing of Imphal West District, Sarik, Konjin, Arong, Nongmaikhong, Tokpaching villages of Thoubal District and Kongjeng Langpoklakpam Maningleikai, Tumukhong villages of Imphal East District, PRO IGAR (S) informed in a statement.
This mass outreach programme is aimed at tapping the solar energy to ease the power crisis in these villages as all these villages are severely affected by an irregular power supply, the statement added.
The statement further informed that two water storage reservoirs having capacity of 5000 litres each were also constructed in Kongjeng Langpoklakpam Maningleikai by troops of 40 Assam Rifles under the Assam Rifles Military Civic Action programme.
There was no provision for water storage in the village due to which the villagers faced acute scarcity of water during summer season.
These water reservoirs for storage of water will be immensely benefit and will not only solve their long standing water crisis but also facilitate in storage of clean drinking water protected from water borne diseases during this monsoon season, the statement added.
