Imphal, February 16 2014:
MPP has appealed to Emboi Serto led ATSUM to call off their indefinite economic blockade which starts this midnight in view of the upcoming major board exams.
Speaking to media persons at his office this afternoon, MPP president N Sovakiran noted that the State is facing scarcity of petrol and diesel even before the blockade has come into effect.
Saying that the blockade would have serious impact on the High School Leaving Certificate exam which starts from February 20, Sovakiran appealed ATSUM to withdraw the blockade call.
He remarked that ATSUM's demand to upgrade IGNTU Manipur Campus into a full fledged university is quite legitimate.
Asking the State Government to consult relevant authorities to upgrade IGNTU into a full fledged central university, he urged the Government to hold dialogue with the agitating students.
Chief Minister O Ibobi's comment as quoted by ANI in an interview that the recent spate of attacks and racial profiling of North East people at Delhi were not serious crimes was disturbing.
He need to come up with a clarification at the earliest, said the MPP president.
