Court convicts two accused

Sessions Court, Bishnupur district convicted two persons in separate criminal cases today.
In the first case, Nongmeithem Gunamani alias Allu Singh s/o (L) N Sanjeet of Kumbi Mayai Leikai in the rape case of a minor girl under Section 363 and 376 of IPC was convicted and the Court fixed August 30 as the date for sentence hearing.
It may be mentioned that the convict abducted the girl along with her friend on August 17, 2011 and raped her by taking her to his house located at Kumbi Setupur, under Moirang police station.
After a written complaint was filed by the rape survivor's family at Kumbi Police Station on August 21, 2011, police arrested Gunamani under FIR No 32 (8) 2011 of Kumbi Police Station under 366/376/368/34 IPC.
After the case was shifted from JMIC to Sessions Court, Bishnupur on November 23, 2013, trial began on December 9, 2013 .
In all, 15 prosecution witnesses deposed before the Court.
After hearing the arguments of both the defence counsel and prosecution, the Court today convicted Gunamani and fixed August 30 as the date for sentence hearing.
In another important case, the same Court convicted Heisnam Joykumar Singh s/o H Ibobi of Keibul Mayai Leikei in the death case of his wife.
After the victim was found dead inside her husband Heisnam Joykumar's house, elder brother of the woman filed a written complaint at Moirang Police Station against Joykumar and his mother H Maichon on July 14, 2000 .
Soon after police received the complaint, the mother-son duo were arrested under FIR No 66 (7) 2000 Moirang Police Station under Section 498-A/304-B/306/34 IPC.
Trial of the case began on August 5, 2005 at the Court of CJM Bishnupur before it was shifted to the Sessions Court Manipur West.
Later, the case was again transferred to Sessions Court Bishnupur on December 11, 2013 .
During the trail of the case, 14 prosecution witnesses and four defence witnesses deposed before the Court.
After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the Court convicted Joykumar in the case and fixed August 30 as the date for sentence hearing.
On the other hand, the Court not only acquitted Joykumar's mother H Maichon but also discharged her bail bond in the case.
