Drugs seized, counterfeit racket busted

A large quantity of pharmaceutical drug Acti-Feel which are abused by a section of youngsters as intoxicating substance has been seized by Imphal West District Police from Imphal Airport.
The pharmaceutical drug packed in 21 cartons was brought to Imphal from New Delhi on Air India, Kingfisher and Indigo flights.
But it was not known who sent the drugs and to whom.
Speaking to media persons at district police headquarters today, Imphal West SP K Jayenta said that the 21 cartons containing 700 strips of Acti-Feel were seized from the airport this afternoon.
The seized drugs were sent from IGI Airport, New Delhi.
It was not known who sent the drugs and to whom as the consignments did not specify its recipient, said the SP adding that investigation has been launched to ascertain the facts.
Authorities of the three airlines, Air India, Kingfisher and Indigo would be asked to cooperate in the police investigation and also to take up necessary action if there was any lapse on the part of their staff.

Acti-Feel tablets have been already banned in Manipur in view of its large scale abuse by some sections of youngsters.
In the meantime, Imphal West district police yesterday busted a racket which prepared and issued fake certificates such as MV Licence, Smart card, Registration Book (of vehicles), driving licence, domicile/permanent residence certificates etc.
The racket was running from a computer shop located in Paona Bazar.
Though shopkeeper Sorokhaibam Chaoba could not be apprehended, police recovered a large number of fake certificates/cards, seals, one computer desk top, one printer etc, Jayenta said.
The SP also appealed to the public to be wary of people who come offering to make driving licence, passports and other documents.
Further, two cadres of PREPAK (Pro) were apprehended by district police when they were intimidating a shop-owner of a steel store at Thangal Bazar.
The PREPAK (Pro) cadres have been identified as Sapam Dinachandra alias Main (24) s/o S Kunjo of Okram Chuthek and Okram Sarojkumar (22) s/o O Biren of Okram Chuthek.
Two mobile handsets were also recovered from their possession.
Moreover, a Tata truck (AS18C/1117) which was hijacked from Silchar and brought to Imphal after killing the owner has been recovered on May 6 from Langthabal area.
The crime was committed under an understanding between the driver and his assistant, the SP said.
One individual has also been pulled up in connection with the same criminal act.
District also recovered a Chinese hand grenade from the gate of Family Welfare Office, BT Road.
