Imphal, April 13:
Setting the April 15 as the deadline for Ereibak, a vernacular daily, to start publishing news items in Meetei Mayek as was agreed during a meeting between representatives of Editors' Forum, Manipur and AMWJU on March 13, MEELAL today said that the understanding reached between the meeting was that Manipuri language newspapers will start carrying news item on the first page, but so far Ereibak has not implemented the agreement.
In a statement MEELAL today said that if Ereibak refuses to abide by the agreement then it will leave no stone unturned to ensure Ereibak does not exist in Manipur.
MEELAL also urged the distributors to abide by any decision taken after April 15. Launching frontal attack on a senior journalist, MEELAL accused him of trying to sow seeds of distrust between the hill and valley people over the Mayek issue.
The statement further said that the real identity of a number of people, who pretend to love the indigenous script but are acting otherwise, has become clearer by the day.
Reacting to the news item covered by the Imphal correspondent of PTI, and published in The Sangai Express, MEELAL said that the attempt to link the movement to revive the script to armed groups is nothing but defamation.
Henceforth the correspondent of PTI should bear the responsibility of any undesirable consequences that may crop up later, warned MEELAL.
The statement added that a truck was set ablaze at Nagamapal yesterday at about 11.30 pm for defying the economic blockade and transporting vegetables.
