Ukhrul, November 25 2013:
With the recent series of blasts at Ukhrul district leaving the people in a state of fear and apprehension, Churches in the district headquarters echoed with prayers for restoration of peace and serenity, the least the people could do now.
The apprehension of the people is heightened at the seeming inaction of the law enforcing agency in handling the blast incidents.
Ukhrul witnessed eight blasts within a span of two and a half months, the latest blast being the one that occurred at Gandhi Chowk, in the heart of Ukhrul town on Saturday night.
As many as ten underground outfits -MNRF, MNPF, United Naga People's Council (UNPC), Volunteers for Innocent People of Nagalim (VIPN), United Tangkhul Army (UTA), MTRA, NSCN-IM, K, NNC and FGN are active in the area besides the presence of some other outfits.
Many smaller outfits have been formed to challenge the alleged nepotism of NSCN-IM.
Even as many civil society organisations of the district have urged for a violence free atmosphere, the tussle could lead to more violent confrontation in times to come given the failure of the law enforcing agency to play their part.
As such, fear is looming large over the heads of Ukhrul denizens, which prompted the people to call for review of the security situation here.
