Tuberculosis which once caused havoc among the human race by claiming thousands of lives annually is no longer a dreaded disease as doctors have been able to cure them easily with the latest technologies and medicines provided by the Scientists, said Health and Family Welfare Minister L Nandakumar Speaking as the chief guest at World TB Day observation held at the R&D Wing of the Medical Directorate, Minister L Nandakumar informed that the State Medical Department have been able to cure at least 85% of the TB patients through the Directly Observe Treatment (DOT) and further informed that out of the 65,848 individual's sputum examined between 1998 and 2004, the sputum of 10,247 have been found positive while 19,358 persons were infected with TB.
MLA Dr M Nara who also spoke at the function said that TB is 100% curable today but eradication of this disease depends a lot on the cooperation and support of the public.
He also urged the TB patients to approach the concerned hospitals for treatment without any feeling of shame or fear of being rejected by the society as negligence on the part of the patient would only help increasing the number of TB patients in the State.
The programme which was organised by State TB Cell was also attended by Health Services Director AK Surchandra along with doctors, health workers and NGOs.
District TB Control Society Bishnupur and Mass United Green Association (MUGA) also observed "World TB Day" at Bishnupur Dist HeadQuarter today.
Bishnupur Zilla Parishad Akshoykumar Singh and Tronglaobi Govt Model Primary School Konsom Babuton Singh attended the programme as the chief guest and president respectively.
