Imphal, November 23:
Contending that partnership with the Congress in the formation of SPF coalition had been able to bring positive changes in the States political scenario, CPI Manipur State Councils secretary B Sharma reiterated that the communist party would have friendly contest with its ally in the 9th Assembly elections.
Interacting with media persons at Irabot Bhavan today, B Sharma also asserted that a stable political entity like the CPI allying with the Congress had guaranteed longevity of the SPF Govt and is still committed to ensure return of the coalition for another term in office.
opining that no political organisation will garner absolute majority in the present context of the State, he said CPI would go together only with those political organisations having secular ideologies.
In sync with party ideology to support the Congress-led UPA Govt at the Centre, State unit of the CPI would endeavour to strengthen the SPF coalition in the State as well inspite of partys decision to have friendly contest with Congress nominees in the forthcoming poll, B Sharma maintained.
he also claimed of an understanding reached with the Congress party to avoid confrontationist attitude during election campaigning.
Joining the media briefing, CPI MLA Dr M Nara ruled out absolute majority by a single party in the poll in addition to recalling that there had always been questions on the stability of a State Government ruled by a single political entity.
Reiterating CPIs contribution and commitment for strengthening the SPF Govt, the MLA also observed that formation of the next SPF Government with like-minded political parties would be decided only after clarity on the poll outcome.
He also confided that CPI would field 25-26 candidates in the valley and hill area constituencies for the coming election while adding that final list of party nominees could be ascertained in the coming days.
Responding to a question, Dr Nara expressed that implementation of the common minimum programme prepared by the SPFs steering committee is not satisfactory.
He also conceded that inspite of some success in terms of the SPF Govts ability in taking up developmental works, question of transparency, corruption-free administration and streamlining public distribution system is yet to reach the desired level.
He, nevertheless, asserted that efforts are still on to address vital issues.
Speaking on the occasion, another party MLA N Tomba informed of the CPI State unit having set into motion relevant process for strengthening the party organisation in view of the polls.
