The 10 day long Eco-crafts Exhibition organised by the Creations Society for Handicrafts and Goodwill under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India was inaugurated today afternoon at NEDFi Haat, Guwahati.
Taking part in the inaugural function as chief guest, Director of the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship Guwahati K Ahmad noted the necessity to produce quality products by joining hands among entrepreneurs.
He lamented that little progress could be observed in the production of handicraft items.
Quoting sources of DC (Handloom), the chief guest informed that four more cluster weavers would be established in Mani pur.
He disclosed that plans are afoot to increase the number of handloom weavers in Manipur to 5000 in the coming year.
In his presidential speech, Director of Cane and Bamboo Technological Centre, Guwahati Kamesh Salam noted that the most challenging problem faced by entrepreneurs in Manipur was in the marketing sector.
To mitigate the problem of marketing products, entrepreneurs need to produce quality, attractive and fashionable goods, he observed.
Saying that in today's highly competitive age, handicrafts and handlooms have been treated as industrial crafts, he opined that it's time to promote handloom and handicraft sector in Manipur.
Altogether 19 stalls including 4 demonstrators are exhibiting handloom and handicraft products of Manipur and decorative items made by wood carving.
