Strongly protesting the firing on a Jeep carrying teachers of Royal Academy by State security personnel, at Wangjing near YK College yesterday light, residents of the area today came out in hordes and blocked the road to air their anger.
The security personnel posted near YK College were from the Thoubal police and III IRB.
Following the strong protests, the State Govt acted swiftly and has suspended three IRB personnel and one Thoubal police commando in connection with the incident.
The suspended personnel include N Rodit, of Thoubal police commando, N Sailesh, T Haridas and Sh Santosh, all from the 111 IRB.
Six persons including five teachers of Royal Academy, Wangjing received bullet injuries when the Jeep they were travelling in was fired upon by State security personnel yesterday evening, near YK College at Wangjing.
Two others in the area were also injured.
The teachers were out on a publicity campaign for their annual sports meet and admission.
Enraged people of Wangjing came out in full strength today from 7.30 am and blocked the road at Wangjing bazar and barred the vehicular movements of all State security personnel.
However Central security personnel were given free passage.
Following the protest at Wangjing all passenger buses on the Imphal-Moreh line took a different route via Mayai Lambi.
All shops at Wangjing bazar remained closed for the day and in the evening the enraged people blocked the road with stones and broken shards of glasses.
The six persons travelling in the Jeep who were injured in yesterday's firing 3re Maibam Roshni (37) and her younger sister M Ranibala (30), Heikham Pilot alias Rajesh (35), Ngangbam Inaobi Devi (22) and T Ganga Singh.
Two more persons staying opposite YK College at the M/S K Amusana Singh Saw Mill were also injured in the firing.
To pacify the people, MLA Dr M Nara, Thoubal DC P Vaiphei, Thoubal SP Kailun and CMO Dr Manglem arrived at the spot and showed their solidarities with the people.
A public meeting was also held in connection with today's protest wherein nine resolutions were adopted.
The resolutions included, constituting a judicial inquiry to probe the incident, repeal of AFSPA, dismissal of the security personnel involved in the firing, transfer of Thoubal SP, transfer of 3rd IRB.
from Wangjing, compensation for the damages caused to the Jeep etc.
During the meeting the DC and SP of Thoubal personally admitted that the incident occurred due to some over sight and tendered their unqualified apologies.
Strongly condemning the incident, MLA Dr M Nara said that the Chief Minister himself should come and assuage the hurt sentiments of the people.
The Chief Minister however did not turn up and instead suggested to Dr Nara that a committee be formed.
The CM suggested that the committee may meet him with their charter of demands at 8 am tomorrow.
The message of the CM has been delivered to the people of Wangjing by the MLA.
