Articulating the demand for passing a resolution for the implementation of Inner Line Permit system in the State Assembly, FREINDS adviser Kakchingtabam Behari Sharma has announced that he would go on a fast-unto death stir if the Assembly fails to implement the ILP system in the coming Monsoon session of the State Assembly.
K Behari announced this today while addressing the media at the FREINDS office.
During the press meet, Behari who is in his mid-seventies and who is also a prominent theatre personality with many theatre awards like Natya Shri, Natya Ratna, Natya Bhusan under his belt, conveyed deep apprehension that the indigenous population of the State would be extinct if the migration of other people to the State is not checked.
K Behari, who also took part in the far-famed agitation on August 27, 1965 popularly known as 'Chaklam Khongchat,' said the implementation of ILP system is a necessity and a must in order to preserve the culture, social and economic conditions of the indigenous people.
Stating that senior citizens should lead the way for posterity, K Behari said he would launch a fast-unto death stir if the Assembly fails to pass a resolution for the implementation of ILP during the Monsoon session of the Assembly.
K Behari Sharma, also widely known as KB Sharma has written the scripts for 21 plays and directed 24 plays.
He has also written two books.
Taking part in the press meet, FREINDS President, Sapamcha Jadumani rued that the Government has turned a deaf ear to the demand for the implementation of ILP system in the State for a long time.
He said, FREINDS would launch a series of agitations before the sitting of the Monsoon session of the Assembly to demand implementation of the system.
Jadumani warned that massive agitation would be launched with various organisations, clubs and meira paibis in the hill and valley areas in case the Assembly fails to pass a resolution for the implementation of ILP system in Manipur.
The FREINDS president said that a signature campaign and spreading awareness on ILP system to the mass would be launch soon as part of the pre-Assembly agitation.
It may be mentioned that the total population of migrants in the State according to the 2001 census is 7,51,822 out of the total population of 22,93,896 hence outnumbering the tribal indigenous population.
The majority community of the State, ie the Meitei population outnumbered the migrant population by only 87334, according to the headcount.
