Imphal, January 15 2016 :
The ruling
Congress party has been
defeated thoroughly in the
Municipal Council and Nagar
Panchayat elections of which
results were declared today,
claimed BJP Manipur Pradesh
president Thounaojam Chaoba.
Speaking to media persons
at their Nityaipat Chuthek
office today, Chaoba stated
that Congress could not se-
cure even one-third of the
total Municipal Council and
Nagar Panchayat seats.
The Chief Minister's chal-
lenge made before the polls to
see the results has been re-
plied befittingly.
He also conveyed gratitude
to the voters for defeating the
Congress party's money and
muscle power.
The election result is a
clear indication of Manipuri
people's desire for a change
in the electoral politics of
Manipur and a change would
be seen sooner rather than
later.
Congress would be de-
feated again at the hands of
BJP in the election to Imphal
Municipal Corporation which
would be held in May this
year.
MLA Kh Joykishan as-
serted that the election result
is a testimony of the Con-
gress party's fast declining
popularity.
BJP is now able to wrest
power from the Congress
party in many Municipal
Councils and Nagar Pancha-
yats even though Congress
was in power in almost all the
Municipal Councils and
Nagar Panchayats during the
previous term.
BJP would score a re-
sounding victory over
Congress party in the next
State Legislative Assembly
election which is due next
year as hinted by the result of
the local body election.
MLA Th Bishwajit
claimed that BJP's victory is
the people's victory.
BJP Manipur Pradesh
general secretary (administra-
tion) M Ashnikumar
remarked that Congress party
has suffered a major setback
after successive defeats in the
by-election to two Assembly
segments and the local body
elections of which results
have been declared today.
