Imphal, January 13:
Observing that the Government should not remain indifferent in the face of extreme hardships being endured by the people due to total break-down in the law and order, the CPI Manipur State Council has decided to urge upon the Union Government to hold peace talk with insurgent groups so as to bring a political solution to the problem.
Briefing media persons at Irabot Bhavan here today, CPI Manipur State Council secretary B Sharma observed that common people are the worst affected section due to the prevailing 'gun culture'.
It is misfortune for the people that State Govt is insensitive to such a grave situation.
It is pointless for the Government to call for peace talk without taking up commensurate actions on the ground to bring insurgents to the negotiating table.
Necessary ground work should be initiated soon to solve outstanding issues of the State, he asserted.
In the first phase of its movement to repeal the AFSPA from the State, the infamous Act has been repealed from six Assembly segments under Imphal Municipal Council, claimed the CPI leader.
But then no encouraging development could be observed in this AFSPA free area.
Considering the prevailing law and order situation, a security advisor will be appointed and the State Government will be insisted to take up necessary steps so as improve the law and order situation, B Sharma said.
Instead of suffering in silence all along, the CPI State secretary called upon the people to launch a mass movement.
Taking part in the press meet, CPI's former Minister Dr M Nara observed that Manipur is now in a critical juncture.
At such a juncture, it is not advisable for the elected representatives to create political unrest in the State in their pursuit and tussle for power.
The major problems of the State, particularly the security issue will be highlighted all over the country during the CPI National Council meeting scheduled for January 17 at Chennai, said Dr Nara.
