The second raising day of the Tangkhul Naga Shanao Long (Tangkhul Naga Women's Organisation), Yaingangpokpi area was celebrated together with members of the UNIDEP Campaign Committee at New Canaan of Ukhrul district today.
The celebration opened with AMUCO president R Yangsosong Koireng as chief guest.
Others who graced the function included chief of New Canaan village AS Maheiching as valedictory chief guest.
Rev Tamthing Varuinao spoke on the role of women in the modern society.
In his address, Yangsosong asserted that UNIDEP condemns the recent spate of violence in Nagaland.
He observed that the act of expulsion and discrimination against a particular ethnic group was a crime against humanity.
He reiterated that the campaign for unity, development and peace all over Manipur being undertaken by AMUCO and other like minded civil organisations will be taken to the hill districts after covering all the valley districts.
When the message of peaceful co-existence and equitable development is taken to the hill districts, UNIDEP Committee will note the plight and hardships of the hill people settled there.
Moreover, UNIDEP Committee will also make serious efforts to redress the woes of the hill people, he assured.
Asserting that the extinguishing bond of unity among the people of Manipur is caused by external forces, he observed that the people are further divided by the misdirected and misplaced development programmes.
Yangsosong stressed on the inevitability of unity among the people of Manipur in order to be able to negate such divisive policies and defeat all destructive forces.
On behalf of the UNIDEP Committee, Yangsosong donated Rs 5000 to the organisers of the raising day.
The raising day celebration of the Tangkhul women organisation was also participated by village chiefs, representatives of village authorities and women leaders of Yaingangpokpi area.
