SEGP beneficiaries threaten stir

All Manipur Selected Special Employment Generation Programme Beneficiaries Committee (AMSSEGPBC) has warned of launching intense agitation in case the Board of Directors of Manipur State Co-operative Bank Limited fails to clear the loans of the beneficiaries under SEGP scheme in the interest of the State.
Announcing the stir call during a press meet at Manipur Press Club on Sunday, Shyamchand, secretary of the Committee, alleged that Manipur State Co-operative Bank Limited tried to forfeit property of the beneficiaries under the scheme by setting up Credit Bank.
He recalled that the ambitious SEGP scheme was launched with the objective to provide livelihood to young jobless educated people.
Under the scheme, lists of beneficiaries were listed through Deputy Commissioners in phase wise manner.
However, the beneficiaries are compelled to face lots of problem.
They were made to register with MetLife Insurance Company forcibly which is unacceptable, the secretary of the committee said.
