Imphal, March 09 2014:
Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency MP Thangso Baite, who is all set for re-contest to retain his seat in the ensuing 16th Lok Sabha polls on Congress ticket again, on Sunday reiterated his party's pledge to protect the state integrity and boundary as well as to guarantee peace in the state.
Talking to media at his official quarter at Lamphel here, Thangso commended UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr Manmohon Singh, AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi, Chief Minister O Ibobi, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, state Congress Ministers, MLAs and office bearers of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee including all those at the district level for reposing trust and confidence on him by choosing as a Congress nominee for the upcoming Parliament elections.
"The Congress leadership had given me ticket in the earlier term and the people at the same time blessed me to serve them.
It's my sincere belief that the people will trust me this time too," he said.
Thangso said that he has been constantly making his best efforts to keep all the promises made in the Congress manifesto for the betterment of the State.
The Congress has been working hard to bring peace and protect the State integrity and its boundary, he said, adding that the party will always keep its promises.
The Congress leader further said that the Congress MPs from the Northeast States have been collectively pushing for a lasting solution to the problems being faced by people from the region in Delhi.
The Central leaders like the Prime Minister and the Home Minister have been urged by the MPs from NE to take steps to end attacks on the people from the region in the national capital, he said, adding that the NE MPs have also set up a committee to look into the problem.
Observing the problem is interwoven with politics, Thangso cautioned that the issue of alleged racial discrimination against NE people in other parts of the country should not be politicized.
Nonetheless, he added that every issue has to be solved politically and appealed to all for making a healthy society together.
