BPL card holders deprived of PDS items

The BPL card holders of Mayang Langjing Tamang and Taning 17/11, ward number 5 and 6 have been deprived of their PDS items mainly rice for the last 10 years by telling them that their share were taken away by certain UG groups.
Addressing media persons in this regard at Manipur Press Club here today, the aggrieved BPL card holders of Mayang Langjing Tamang and Taning 17/11, ward number 5 and 6, informed that around 70 of them were receiving rice under BPL scheme for many years.
However, they stopped receiving the rice since 2007-08 .
When the reason for deprivation of rice to them was sought, the concerned agents informed them that their share have been taken away by certain UG groups.
They further informed that their BPL cards were issued in 2001 and it was renewed in 2007.However, without renewing the old BPL cards, the concerned agents carried on providing rice to some people.
When asked why the old BPL card holders who have even renewed their cards were not provided rice, the agents keep on insisting that their quota of rice have been by UG groups.
However, these agents never mention which UG groups have come down to this level of depriving the benefits of the people living below poverty line.
The aggrieved old BPL card holders demanded disclosure of the UG groups which are enjoying the shares of the common people, as alleged by the concerned agents.
The 70 families of the old BPL card holders are all set to launch various agitations until their demands are fulfilled, they added.
