Rev Darsanglien Ruolngul, founder member and general secretary (Emiritus) of Independent Church of India (ICI) passed away last midnight at Churachandpur District hospital, following a stroke .
One of the most important personalities of the Church, Rev Darsanglien Ruolngul, 82 years, is survived by his four sons .
ICI organised a memorial and funeral service at his residence in Sielmat, Churachandpur in which thousands of people, Church leaders, various civil bodies, social workers and family members congregated to pay their last tribute and the deceased was laid to rest at Sielmat Cemetery .
As per the notice issued by the secretariat of the ICI, memorial services of the departed leader were held across the country where the Church exists .
Born in 1936 at Muolvaiphei village in Churachandpur, Rev Darsanglien Ruolngul went through many hardships to receive his elementary education .
He graduated from Gauhati University in 1959, obtained Bachelor of Divinity at Union Biblical Seminery in 1975 .
Between 1959-60, he served as the Vice Principal at Sielmat Christian High School, Churachandpur .
During 1961-62 he held the post of Field Superintendent at IBP Mission and in 1962 he became the Director of ICI .
He was the Principal at Sielmat Bible College, CCpur from 1980 and held the post till 1986 .
Between 1994-2000 he served the Church as the Executive Secretary .
During the 1997 Kuki-Paite conflict, he was appointed as Chairman of Peace Committee, a committee which was constituted by the State Govt to bring peace among the tribal communities.
He was the author of many commentaries and Christian books, and received various awards at National and international level .
Several tribal organisations condoled Rev Ruolngul and termed his death as a great loss for the Hmar community.
