Kaimai villagers decry

The Kaimai Village Authority has expressed serious concern that the construction of military barracks by the 13th and 23rd Assam Rifles in the compound of the Kaimai Baptist Church at Kaimai village under Tousem Sub Division, Tamenglong district has caused immense inconveniences to the social and cultural life and freedom of the villages .
A press release issued by Chairman of Kaimai VA stated that the setting up of army barracks since 2005, has hindered the villagers in conducting religious services .
Women are reluctant to attend Church services, especially those held during night time, due to the presence of army personnel in the Church compound, it stated while adding that the continuous phone communication by the personnel has affected the worship service also .
The Kaimai villagers expressed concern that the normal celebration of Christmas and the religious festival services will also be affected since the villagers are deprived of proper and peaceful place to celebrate and pray, it asserted .
It urged the Indian Army and the Assam Rifles authority to dismantle the army barracks in the Church compound and allow the villagers to resume their peaceful conduct of their religious services without any disturbances .
The Kaimai village authority also urged the State Government and the DC of Tamenglong to take appropriate steps in removing the army barracks .
It appealed all the community organisations and human rights organisations to urge upon the Government and the Indian army officials to fulfil the demands of Kaimai villagers.
